NICOLÁS REAL

 

Flutist, educator, conductor, and composer. Nicolás Real holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)-Flute Performance and Composition degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, a Master of Music-Flute Performance degree from Central Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Music-Flute Performance degree from the University Institute of Musical Studies (IUDEM) in Venezuela. Dr. Real begun his career in the National System of Youth Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela “El Sistema”, where he was a flutist of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and Flute Teacher at the Latin American Flute Academy. Additionally, Dr. Real is also a former Flute Teacher of the University of Los Andes in Mérida, and the National University of the Arts (UNEARTE) in Caracas, Venezuela.

Nicolás Real, Flutist

As a soloist and a chamber performer, Dr. Nicolás Real was founder member of Miquirebo-Flute Quartet of Venezuela, National Flute Orchestra of Venezuela, and The Real-Peña Duo (Flute and Piano Duet), with which he performed recitals, recorded CD’s, and toured in Venezuela and overseas. Also, he has engaged with a variety of musical projects and ensembles in USA, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Spain, France, South Korea, Brazil, Colombia, Panamá, Mexico, Trinidad, Barbados, and Chile. Moreover, in 2002, he won the "Concerto Aria Competition" at Central Michigan University, and the “Performers Competition” at The National Flute Convention, Washington DC.

As a composer, his works compositions have been performed by various ensembles in Venezuela and in USA such as The Massachusetts Flute Choir, The Merrimack Valley Flute Choir, The Crescent Duo (Flute and Clarinet Duo from Michigan), The National Flute Orchestra of Venezuela, and Miquirebo-Flute Quartet of Venezuela. In 2011, Dr. Real premiered his own “Concerto for Flute, String Orchestra, and Percussion” with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra at the International Flute and Piccolo Festival in Caracas, Venezuela. As a conductor, Nicolás Real has engaged both academic and popular repertoire with a variety of symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles in Venezuela, Colombia, and USA. As a recording artist, he has collaborated with a number of CD recordings projects along his career. In 2004, he released his first solo CD “Nicolás Real-Music from Eastern Venezuela”, in which he depicts the traditional music genres of the eastern region of Venezuela.

Currently, Nicolás Real is the Principal Flute at the Venice Symphony Orchestra, The Villages Philharmonic, and The Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra, Founder-Director of The Real Flute Studio, and an active soloist and educator in the US and Latin America.
